Happy I took the 'gay job' After four years at GLAAD, it's clear that culture leads and changes our politics. By Neil G. Giuliano Friday, June 19, 2009 I'LL LET YOU IN ON A RARELY SPOKEN political fact: Politics does not lead cultural change. Culture leads, and then changes, our politics. Understanding this is what compelled me in the summer of 2005 to serve as the president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. As the national LGBT organization dedicated to creating cultural change via influencing coverage and portrayals of gay people in the media, GLAAD doesn't do the political or legal work so vital for our movement's advancement.
