Utah joins call to delay gay ruling in midst of Utah AG Mark Shurtleff's re-election campaign

Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff and his colleagues from nine other states are urging the California Supreme Court to delay a final ruling that would legalize same-sex marriage. A letter brief sent by the 10 Republicans takes no position on gay marriage, but asks the court to wait to make its ruling effective until California voters have the chance in November to vote on a proposed amendment to the state Constitution. The attorneys general say they worry their own courts will be flooded with lawsuits demanding recognition of same-sex marriages performed in California. Such "marriage tourism" litigation could be avoided, they argue, if voters do overrule the California Supreme Court and no gay unions are certified in the interim. Full story...
