20 November is the Transgender Day of Remembrance.
Every year for nine years so far, the transgender community and their allies gather together in order to remember all those who have been killed due to transphobic violence over the year. The list at Gender.org has grown to 280 individuals.
The Transgender Day of Remembrance began in 1999 as a vigil organized by author and activist Gwendolyn Ann Smith to remember and raise awareness of the murder of Rita Hester.
