California Bill Seeks to Expand LGBT Domestic Violence Services

Recent studies have found that nationwide LGBT domestic violence victims, especially gay men, are often reluctant to report abuse. These studies have also found that 57 percent of LGBT victims often become homeless due to the abuse; 18 percent "lose everything."
Furthermore, agencies that deal with victims of domestic abuse across the country frequently have little understanding of LGBT partner abuse, offer few services to the LGBT community, and there is frequently an absence of emergency shelter available.
This week California Assembly Member John A. Perez (D-Los Angeles) has filed a bill (AB 1003) in the California Assembly that would expand domestic violence services for members of the LGBT community in that state. Full story...
