Here finally is an event that requires you to sit in front of your computer and update your social network: The International Day of the Punchline! Bonus: it has the prestige of only happening once every 100 years. Granted there were no Internet social networks before now so people had to celebrate at the social clubs in person (*shudder*). Besides, who knows if the human race will even be around on July 8, 3009 to celebrate again — like we’ll care.
It’s easy. Think of one or more of your favorite jokes and make the punchline your status update. I’ve already got a list of them that I love like:
Coz it was dead Take away its credit card The pigs are in the truck and one of them is honking the hornSee? It’s fun!
Now here’s to hoping that this will be more viral than Homo sapiens next time around thus keeping my legacy intact. Full story...
Vampire Weekend
Contra
XL Recordings
Vampire Weekend’s second album is a quirky little thing that has set 2010 off in high form.
One Sentence Review: Alice In Wonderland
It’s visually stunning, emotionally stunted and could have used much more of Anne Hathaway’s hilarious White Queen.
One Sentence Review: Shutter Island
Being a slow-burn character study wrapped in a mystery, this will play just as well on the small screen.
I find that boils are the perfect combination of inconvenience and pain to wish upon your enemies.
One Sentence Review: Avatar
This is pure, classic Terry Gilliam with Tom Waits outshining everyone as the devil himself.
Now here’s something to get you in the mood for you New Year’s celebrations: a look back at the last decade in music Web Pen style.
And here is the last of the lists for the year. Since many of the record companies are forbidding embedding video so fans can promote their artists, I’ve just put a link to hear a sample of each album.
In keeping with the countdown theme of late, here are my favorite films of the year. Not surprisingly half of them are animated and a couple were pleasant surprises (District 9) and some were of typical high quality (Up).
Now that the countdown is over and you’ve been so good and patience, here is your present: The 2009 Countdown Mix! Have a wonderful and safe holiday.
2. Pet Shop Boys – Yes
This is unabashedly, commercially-minded music, but with the style and grace of two masters of the pop genre.
