Some Calif. lesbian/gay marriages will be granted on June 16

Source: San Francisco Chronicle , BakersfieldNow , San Jose Mercury News Local officials authorized to grant California marriage licenses can begin to issue them to lesbian or gay couples as early as 5 pm on June 16, the California Office of Vital Records said late yesterday. San Francisco officials had asked if they could begin issuing licenses at that time, when the state Supreme Court decision granting marriage rights to gay and lesbian couples takes effect. San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom said earlier this week he wanted to start marrying couples "the minute" the ruling takes effect. Full story...
