Item: Minn. Episcopalians pick Spokane priest as next bishop

::: A 50-year-old priest from Spokane, Wash. was selected today to become the next bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota, Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Nearly 500 clergy and lay delegates meeting at the diocese’s annual convention in Minneapolis, chose Rev. Brian Prior from a slate of five candidates, including a Native American, and two women, one of whom – Rev. Bonnie Perry – is an out, partnered lesbian. Although the choice of either would have been historic firsts for the church, both Perry and Rev. Doyle Turner, a member of the White Earth band of Ojibwe, emphasized before the vote that they were not “movement” candidates. Full story...
