Item: 20,000 march in Taipei for LGBT equal rights

   ::: An LGBT pride march that attracted only 500 people just five years ago, drew about 2000 participants Saturday in Taipei, Taiwan, DPA reports.  Waving rainbow flags, placards, and balloons, marchers demanded equal rights for LGBT citizens and the recognition of marriage equality for gay and lesbian couples. Marchers came from neighboring Hong Kong and from Japan and other east Asian countries, AFP reports. Taiwan is one of the most open societies regarding tolerance of homosexuality, according to the German news agency, DPA. But a march organizer told AFP that much work still needs to be done.
