The Black Issue
Made in Brazil Jun 23 08With the shows going on in São Paulo and my inbox loaded with questions regarding why there are such few black girls on the runway in Brazil, I was particularly interested in reading Cathy Horyn's piece for the NYT about the July issue of Italian Vogue. The issue features exclusively black girls photographed by Steven Meisel, and all the articles and topics are related to black women in the arts and entertainment. As far as I know there are no Brazilian girls featured in the issue, which does not surprise me considering that the few black girls I have seen working here in the past week were Emanuela de Paula, Samira, and newcomer Gracie.
