It was written and produced by the now legendary team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, both formerly of Prince's opening act, The Time. The video was directed by famed fashion photographer Herb Ritts and was the second of his iconic trio of sexy black & white + sand music videos, the first being Madonna's Cherish, the third being Chris Isaak's Wicked Game.
