Cubland Jul 14 08Unconvinced by the notion that a photograph equals truth and reality, Anthony Gayton has instead embraced what he calls the 'Victorian fantasist' approach. His images take us to a romantic, mythologised world, populated by angels, mermen and centaurs. His series 'The Angelus' illustrates his own gothic fantasy tale of the same name, about a girl called Lillian who decides to create the perfect man. Needless to say it doesn't go according to plan. But it does provide an ideal platform for another of Gayton's principle concerns - the faintly idolatrous and conspicuously homoerotic adoration of the beautiful, Adonis-like male. Full story...
