Student Writes Article on Gay Tolerance, Teacher Gets Fired
Teacher Amy Sorrell had thought articles in the school paper on teen pregnancy, teen motherhood and sexually transmitted diseases might cause a stir, so she always submitted them to the school principal for prior approval.
But when she didn't have a student article on tolerance towards homosexuals pre-approved, she found herself suspended from her job. Principal Ed Yoder said the column wasn't suitable for the school paper.
"If we can talk about herpes and gonorrhea on one page, we should be able to talk about tolerance on the next page," says Sorrell. Sorrel added that no parent has yet to file a complaint about the column's content.
